The information contained in this website (and the DVD / workbook in the Training link) will help any health practitioner treating temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and/or whiplash injuries develop a more accurate differential diagnosis. A diagnosis which identifies:

  1. Source of symptoms vs. site of symptoms
  2. Joint driven vs. muscle muscle driven symptoms
  3. Cervicogenic vs. TMJoint driven symptom expression in the cervical region
  4. Stages of TMJoint internal derangement
  5. Degree of and location of TMJoint inflammation
  6. Insidious onset/multifactorial disorders vs trauma onset disorders

The DVD also includes treatment and referral algorithms, video demonstration of hands on examination and treatment techniques (including safe, effective mobilization/manipulation of the temporomandibular joint), video of arthroscopic repair of symptom expressive temporomandibular joints and illustrutive radiographic and special tests.

Whiplash injuries and temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are both capable of producing a constellation of symptoms. These symptoms include headache, neck pain, shoulder pain, dizziness and tinnitus. Jaw pain may or may not be a prevalent complaint. Doctors seeing whiplash patients must be aware that whiplash can cause TMJ injury and that the symptoms can mimic cervical injury. Timely and accurate diagnosis can minimize protracted pain and suffering, misdirected treatment and medico-legal disputes. The educational tools in this website will help the health care practitioner to better develop a work up that is accurate as to patho-etiology, referral patterns, differential diagnosis, treatment options and, when necessary, medico-legal management.
